What we do

Services

The Partnership offers a number of services and technical support to Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies and partners, ranging from tailored training programmes to knowledge management and research. The Partnership uses the high standards of practice set by Villa Maraini Foundation to promote and advocate for humane and evidence-based approaches in helping people affected by substance abuse and dependence.

The Villa Maraini Foundation is active in the field of substance abuse since 1976. During the years, it has radically increased its activities, becoming a leading centre on substance abuse treatment and prevention both nationally and internationally. Nowadays, the Foundation provides a wide range of programmes and services to more than 3.000 PWUDs and their families per year.

The main strategy of intervention consists of providing multi-disciplinary therapeutic interventions, adapted to the different needs and situations of the clients. Therefore, services are articulated on different threshold levels (low, medium and high), depending on the person’s level of motivation toward treatment and include: residential and semi-residential therapeutic communities, opioid substitution treatment (OST) and other pharmacological therapies, outreach street units for needle and syringe programmes (NSPs) among PWIDs, counselling and testing for HIV and HCV, drop-in centre and night shelters, an emergency unit for overdose intervention and other emergencies related to drug use, a prison project for drug offenders.
